The Pause Platform Üsküdar

  • architecture

Üsküdar does not fit into a single identity. At first, it feels like a transfer space — an urban threshold that guides, distributes, and speeds up movement. People are here mainly to pass through, not to stay. As you walk along the coastline, this clear transfer character becomes softer. Small moments of pause appear within the flow. Inside the large-scale system, small human-scale spaces become visible. Üsküdar is not only a circulation corridor; it also holds the possibility of staying within movement.
In Üsküdar, the sea represents both freedom and distance. The land represents order and necessity. The strength of this place lies in the ability to find a personal pause within a constantly moving system. Being a transfer area does not make it without identity; instead, it becomes a layered threshold where different lives meet and time overlaps.
A key spatial need reflecting Üsküdar's identity is a place to pause and rest. This project creates a stopping point where people can move beyond the path toward the sea, interact with it, and even swim. It offers an ecological and social environment that supports both planned visits and spontaneous stops, encouraging people to slow down and connect with nature."
