House of Dark: Membrane of the Land

Olive Production Space: House of Dark is located on a steep mountainous site in the countryside of İznik, above existing olive groves. The project begins with the idea of settling into the topography rather than creating an object placed on the land. The different blocks are positioned according to the slope, views and movement through the site. The membrane roof is used as the main architectural element to follow the changing levels of the terrain. It connects production, exhibition, library, offices, multitask rooms, café and restaurant under one continuous surface. In this way, the membrane does not only provide shelter; it becomes a topographical layer that ties the building to the landscape.
