From 2-d Compositions to 3-d Space

  • architecture

Students start the semester by learning the grammer of visual language. They compose layouts of everyday objects through drawing on paper and research keywords such as balance, figure/ground, contour and frame.   After many trials where spatial configurations are explored on the surface of drawings paper, these experiences are translated into three dimensional space through model making exercises. Concepts such as solid/void relationship, continuity of space and scale are investigated.
