Spatial Investigations of Invisible Surfaces

This exhibition brings together site-specific projects developed by students of the Spatial Practices in Art course at Kadir Has University, all based on field observations made across Istanbul.

Field Notes aims to render visible the overlooked traces, suppressed memories, and everyday interventions imprinted on the city’s surfaces—traces that emerge from students’ individual and collective encounters with the urban environment.

From utility poles and construction sites to abandoned arches and sticker-covered facades, these investigations probe the city’s regimes of visibility, spatial injustices, and the intersections of aesthetics and politics.

The installations treat the city as both archive and arena of action, forging a research language through diverse materials and forms: modular street-pole structures, sound boxes, mirrored voids, and textured layers of text.

Field Notes reminds us that art can touch, question, and remake space. These works transform the micro-traces of everyday life into sites of public expression.
