KHAS Architecture 2024 Summer Workshop: “Re-forming Concrete”
2024 Summer Workshop, organized by Kadir Has University Architecture Department, in collaboration with Akçansa Company, explores formwork techniques of concrete material and the process of building a whole from modular units
This 10-day workshop is organized over three stages: design, production and assembly.
In the first part of the workshop, the participants were tasked to design modular concrete units, considering the limitations in size and weight, develop the concrete material composition, as well as the method of their assembly. The process was supported with seminars by the instructors and partners including a visit to Akçansa, Büyükçekmece Factory. In the second part of the workshop, the participants produced formworks, using different materials and production techniques, in consideration with the process of application of concrete (moulding) and detaching the formwork (de-moulding) in terms of the effect of the formwork on the final product. After initial trials and prototyping in the studio, final application of the concrete was made at the Betonsa, Kemerburgaz Factory. Finally, after detaching the formworks, the assembly of the units took place relating with its surroundings and creating a whole.
The final product of the workshop is exhibited at C-blok garden in Khas Cibali Campus.
