Decanting the memory: sea baths of Usküdar
- architecture
The true spirit of Üsküdar lies in its nature as a threshold of collision and contrast. It is the exact point where the rigid, ancient rocks of the Asian continent clash with the turbulent, fluid currents of the Bosphorus; a boundary where historical heritage confronts the modern metropolis. The project utilizes these inherent "contrasts" Hard/Soft, Light/Dark, Movement/Stillness—as the primary design generators, elevating the architecture into a highly haptic, phenomenological, and sensory spatial experience. The architecture acts as a "Threshold," creating a spatial tension between the hardness of the rocks and the softness of the water, operating as a living organism that purifies the strait while slowly surrendering to it.
