CO-PRESENCE

Co-Presence: From Isolation to Integration focuses on creating spaces that bring people together in everyday urban life. The project is located at Moda Pier, an area where movement, waiting, and passing through are part of daily routines. Due to economic pressures and rising housing costs, many elderly residents have been left living alone, spending long periods of time in public spaces without meaningful social interaction. This project responds to that condition by turning a transit area into a place of shared presence.

The design is shaped by pedestrian flows and entrances, allowing movement to naturally guide people into the space. Instead of sharp boundaries, soft and curved forms create a sense of openness and embrace. These forms encourage people to slow down, sit, observe, and interact, even without direct communication. The space supports both individual use and collective experience, making it possible to be alone without feeling isolated.

By combining circulation, resting areas, and semi-enclosed spaces, the project creates opportunities for spontaneous encounters between different age groups. It aims to transform everyday routines into moments of connection and visibility. Rather than offering a fixed program, the design allows flexible use, adapting to changing needs throughout the day. In this way, Co-Presence proposes a simple yet powerful idea: shared space can reduce social isolation by allowing people to exist together, even in silence.
