Experiments in Dwelling & Housing
Balat
This first architectural design studio aims to introduce the students with the process of architectural design by means of short-term projects that focus on a creative investigation of the foundations of architectural space and form making, while enhancing the skills and abilities that the students started to attain in the first year Basic Design Studios, such as abstract and analytical thinking, three-dimensional thinking, understanding architectural design as a research process, working alone and in groups, using representational tools in a creative manner, and expressing ideas in graphic, written and verbal form. Another aim of the studio is to enable the students to experience architectural design as a rich, multi-dimensional process that feeds from other fields of knowledge by building active links with other courses of the term, i.e. Architectural History and Theory, and Structural Systems. Furthermore, the studio aims to develop foundational skills in technology to aid digital modeling, drafting and representation tools.
